After retiring from a career as a legal assistant for Philly law firms, Nancy Zmijewski immersed herself in her favorite home and garden pastimes. As a talented seamstress, she’d completed many custom designed projects for her home and family.
Over the years, she and her husband made many trips to Portugal and became quite fond of the country. As Nancy learned about the country’s commitment to sustainability, she wanted to find a way to create something with the cork taken from the bark of Portugal’s cork oak trees. The cork is harvested without harming the trees and it regenerates every 9 years.
Cork fabric is an impermeable, elastic and fire resistant material which makes it adaptable for many uses. Using this uncommon material, Nancy designs chic handbags and clutch purses in a variety of colors and styles.
