Joe Stebbing started his wood carving pastime with a mallet and chisels, like many carvers do. With this method, he would only produce one new sculpture every few months.
After he saw the detailed carvings made by another chainsaw carver, he figured he would try chainsaw carving too.
Today his body of work includes many animals, human figures, wizards, flowers, butterflies and angel wings. He also does custom designs such as the set of backyard furniture he made for one client which appears to grow out of the earth it sits on.
When his schedule allows, Joe sometimes attends the annual Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous in Ridgway, PA where he shares carving tips and tricks with other carvers in this unconventional medium.
