Somewhere in the Finger Lakes region of New York, there sits a home studio where two artists, and likely their dog, are always covered in fine dusting of plaster and clay. It’s how Adam and Sarah Spector met, so we’d expect nothing less of these Sugarloaf family members!
The pair met while studying ceramics at the Alfred University. Nearly 10 years after first gazing at each other over glaze, Adam’s pottery skills coupled with Sarah’s tile talents have built Spector Studios into a creative powerhouse. We’re proud to connect their award-winning work with Sugarloaf customers just like you!
From design to completion, the Spectors collaborate on their work. To make the tiles, Sarah uses a historical process that she’s adapted to work with Adam’s ceramic work. They make a model from clay, then make a plaster form from the model, and then carve their designs freehand into the plaster before embossing even clay into those designs. Their pieces are finished with their own original glaze palate, which combines a soft satin matte glaze with a slick, glossy glaze.
Each piece is oven (follow instructions), microwave and dishwasher safe.
