Sandra Severson grew up in the Philadelphia art world as the daughter of prominent Philly artists Gerardo and Edith Belfiore. With her parents as mentors, she began painting and winning awards at an early age.
In 1980, she moved to her family farm where she developed horse handling skills and learned to paint horses. She took drawing and portraiture at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and studied with Nelson Shanks. Soon her work appeared at the Kentucky Derby Museum and the International Museum of the Horse. Her paintings have graced the covers of many magazines, including The Chronicle of the Horse, Oasis Magazine and the American Lipizzan Registry. Her work has also appeared on the 2013 Dressage at Devon and 2015 Devon Horse Show posters.
Sandra has won numerous domestic and international awards and was hired to paint the British Steeplechase horse, Tagamet, Brazilian cutting champion, Magella, and other equine subjects in Belgium and Morocco.
