In 1994, a fellow artist introduced Michael Sage to the Victorian craft of skeletonized leaves. As someone whose artistic projects were often inspired by the natural world, he was immediately fascinated by this unusual practice and the creative possibilities it presented.
Today, Michael turns leaf skeletons into unique jewelry, shadow boxes, coaster sets and rubber stamps. Using a special process, he separates the leaf skin from the vascular system. Although leaf skeletons appear quite fragile, they’re actually pretty flexible.
His most original creation is the Leaf Dress, made from hundreds of leaves carefully fused into an elegant dress!
