Barbara Palmer creates original folk art paintings using a technique called theorem painting which originated in China and was later rediscovered in England and New England. 19th Century young ladies learned theorem painting and reverse glass painting as part of their training in the decorative arts.
Barbara creates her original theorem designs on hand dyed cotton velveteen material and uses reverse glass painting to give the image a feeling of depth. Her paintings are available to purchase as prints and on notecards.
In addition to her painting, Barbara has illustrated and written a number of children’s books for toddlers and elementary aged children. She also conducts classroom visits to share her books and her painting techniques with children.
