Jerry Krider creates intricate wooden sculptures and puzzles using dozens of domestic and exotic woods. His general sculpture collection includes cats, dogs, birds, Canada geese, penguins and trees. He also makes religious and holiday-themed items like turkeys, pilgrims, pumpkins, nativity scenes and Christmas ornaments. He finishes each item with a layer of clear lacquer, leaving the woods natural color still visible.
His signature items are his wooden puzzle sculptures which often include 3 or more contrasting woods.
He began wood crafting as a hobby, making gifts for family members and selling items to raise money at the church bazaar. Before long, he progressed to drawing his own patterns and experimenting with exotic woods to enhance his sculptures.
He works out of his rural Indiana garage workshop, assisted by his wife, Ann Krider, who does sanding and finishing.
